3-Hour Intro to Blacksmithing, January Tuesday Afternoons from 1-4 PM w/ Luke Claymon
This 3-hour Intro to Blacksmithing workshop, offered weekly on Tuesdays, provides the flexibility to attend once or multiple times to refine your skills. Pair this with our hourly shop rentals, available on Thursdays, to combine guided instruction with dedicated practice time.
Participants will learn how to start and manage a coal forge fire to achieve optimum working temperatures. Hammer and anvil use to perform the basic techniques of drawing out, tapering, hot cutting, upsetting, bending, and curling will be covered. Students will develop the skills and confidence to work independently on basic blacksmithing projects suggested by the instructor. These skills can inform blade-smithing, but please take note this is not a bladesmithing workshop.
Students must wear closed-toed shoes, have hair tied, a hat or bandana (recommended), and long pants. Wear natural fibered clothing (cotton, wool, etc) because synthetic fabrics have a tendency to catch fire and melt on the skin.
