This Course will focus on direct hand-carving techniques and three dimensional thinking. You will learn the art of stone carving through this two-day workshop, where you will be carving a piece of soapstone. Discussions of safe studio practices, stone and tool sourcing and usage and finishing techniques help make this workshop an excellent introduction to stone sculpture. Carving tools will not be provided and a 15 lb piece of soapstone is included in the class fee. This workshop is open to all levels of skill.

Instructor Bio: Kailey Maher (b.1988) is a visual artist and dreamer of impossibility. In 2022 she received her BFA from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a focus on sculpture and ceramics. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She is a second-generation stone carver. As a small girl, she spent many years alongside her grandmother, who would often call her over to admire the stone she was working on, misting away the mysteries to the form hidden within.

There is a 25% cancellation fee for all workshops and classes if requested with two weeks of prior notice. Deposits and payments are nonrefundable within two weeks of the scheduled date.
